Bill Introduced to Ban Hemp

Pete Rickett's appointed Senator Kathleen Kauth introduced LB 136 yesterday 1-15-25, in an attempt to prohibit and regulate cannabis products sold in retail stores.

LB 316 & Senator Kathleen Kauth

New Focus on Products with THC-like Effects:

LB136 is focused on products that could mimic the effects of marijuana. For example, if a hemp-derived product causes psychoactive effects (like getting high), it could face restrictions. This includes products that contain cannabinoids like THC-A and THC-P that might have stronger effects than regular hemp.

Marketing Restrictions:

The bill introc suggests If a product is marketed in a way that makes it look like a controlled substance or suggests it gives the same effects as marijuana, it could be banned. Products that seem to promise euphoria, hallucination, or other marijuana-like effects may fall under this rule.

Conclusion

In short, the bill aims to keep hemp legal but tightens the rules on what can be sold, especially in smoke shops. If products are misleading or mimic illegal drugs, they could be banned or regulated more strictly.

This bill doesn’t mean hemp is going away—just that some hemp-related products will be more carefully watched to make sure they don’t get confused with illegal marijuana products.
